Good Guys

Businesses that treat customers well are a refreshing relief from the assembly-line practices of many corporations. Please enjoy and support good service by patronizing these exemplary businesses.

Contents

AT&T Universal Card
Terrific customer service: AT&T Universal Card has very high quality customer service. In addition to skilled service people, they have shown me flexibility and responsiveness.
Respects privacy: AT&T will open a credit card account without requiring your Social Security Account Number, and they will remove your number if it is already there. The clerk you speak to first may be unaware of this, but ask them to check with management.
Babbage's
Good refund policy: Babbage's offers refunds for any products except software with broken licensing seals. This is important for two reasons: Software (including video games) is difficult to judge before using, and the law requires a product to be fit for the purpose for which it is sold. (Many store managers do not understand their policy applies only to voluntary returns. The law requires them to accept returns for products that do not work, such as software with bugs.) I liked Babbage's former policy better, but they are still one of the best around.
B. St. Pierre Studio
Great work: Bonnie St. Pierre does superb photography and is always happy to help a customer.
Corning
Product support: Corning kindly replaced the plastic lid to a Corning Ware container for free, even though it was damaged due to my error (I had forgotten the lid was not microwavable). And the new lid is better; it is microwavable. Please prefer Corning products in your shopping.
MV Communications
Good service: MV Communications has been my ISP for years, and they've been great, providing individual service that the national ISPs cannot. They provide service in New Hampshire and parts of Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts.
PowerNet Global Communications
Good service, good price: PowerNet Global Communications has been my long-distance provider for several years. I hooked up with them through Americom when I was looking for cheap service, and PowerNet has been easy to do business with—simple bills, low rates and no funny charges, and responsive customer service that handled my interstate moves easily.
Sullivan Tire
Good work: Sullivan Tire is a trustworthy automobile repair shop. When chance took me to their shop over a decade ago, they made a difficult diagnosis—and it did not cost me a lot, and my old car ran better than it had before. Please try Sullivan Tire when looking for automobile maintenance.
Vern's Auto Body
Friendly service: When a driver without insurance or a real job dented my car, Vernon MacKay helped me out by fixing it for a fair price. He undercut two other shops substantially because they quoted me inflated hours from a standard book of rates. He did the job fast, well, and under his estimate.

Compare these to the bad guys.
