I arrived in Bergen in late afternoon, checked into the hotel, and made my way to Pingvinen for dinner of reindeer crepe with lingonberry sauce, potatoes, broccoli salad. I also found Konfektgalleriet, a chocolate store I visited several times while in town.

The park visible in these pictures was near my hotel. You can see a small bit of the hills for which Bergen was named.

This passageway is from the historic/tourist area around the waterfront. I spent a lot of the day visiting various museums there, including Theta Museum, in a room used by the Norwegian resistance during World War II.

From memory, I also visited an office of the Hanseatic League, an archeological site, a castle, Old Bergen Museum, the Norwegian Fisheries Museum, and more, although I am not sure on which day I visited which thing. Leprosy Museum.

I also scoped out the Fløibanen, allegedly a train to the top of Mount Fløyen. You can see people waiting in line in the image to the right. I took a peek inside the building, and it goes down, and you can see there are no tracks behind the building going up the hill, so I had my suspicions.

I avoided the Fløibanen line by going early. On the top of Mount Fløyen, some goats were making themselves at home. I walked around a bit, did not feed any trolls, and walked down.

Later in the day, I visited the Bryggens Museum, wandered the tourist shops, and had Bergen fish soup.

Today, I visited the Hordamuseum. That involved a train ride out of town, then a bus ride, then a walk. The Hordamuseum includes some relocated old houses with actors exhibiting historic handicrafts and life. It also has indoor exhibits including a boat hall. The images to the right are from the adjacent shore.

Back in Bergen, I ate at Lysverket (“Light Work”), a Michelin star restaurant in the art museum:

Wednesday, August 15

Wednesday was a travel day: a train to the airport, a flight to Trondheim, and a bus into town.
