Another transit day, with a five-hour layover in Linz. The Pöstlingbergbahn is a
steep friction railway. (What is the world’s least-steep cog railway?) The
picture does not do the grade justice. The Pöstlingbergbahn is part of the
city’s transit system.
I had my first Punschkrapfen here. Then we went on to Vienna,
my father’s original hometown. That was a bit of an ordeal. I had book a hotel
near the Hauptbahnhof, for transit convenience. But it was the new,
incomplete Hauptbahnhof, and city transit had not yet been rerouted to
serve it well, so it was a longer walk than expected, difficult for my father.
