This was the first of several mornings of waking up in a new place, as the
ship traveled overnight. That is kind of fun.
Today we visited Corfu (the island), beginning with a bus tour, a stop at Bella
Vista viewpoint over Paleokastritsa Bay, and a walk through Makrades village,
and followed by lunch and a tour of Corfu (the city). The trip to Makrades
involved a bus trip up a mountain with very narrow lanes. At one town,
there was a stop light at each end of town, so traffic goes through the town
(several hundred meters) only one way at a time.
Aboard ship, we had discovered a few of the passengers and Maja (our Trip
Experience Leader) were boardgamers, so I looked up potential game stores. In
Corfu, I went looking for a Eurogame to purchase for play on the ship. I walked
out of the old town tourist area to Digital Fantasy, which seemed a likely
prospect to find Eurogames. Unfortunately, they were more focused on other games
(collectible card games, wargames) and had only a small Eurogame section with
little interesting to me. Fortunately, the clerk directed me to another store
called Public. It was in the old town, so I headed back.
In Public, I followed signs to the second floor, and a clerk approached me, and
I asked (in English) if they had any Eurogames. She said no, but I looked over
her shoulder and walked to the sign on the far wall that said Eurogames (in
English). The selection was poor, but I found Ticket to Ride Ευρωπη (Europe),
which is a reasonable game for gamers and a nice game to introduce non-gamers to
Eurogames. So I bought that.
Of course, I also went chocolate hunting in Corfu, without succeess. There was
some but nothing that looked like it was worth the calories.
Ticket to Ride Ευρωπη had only Greek rules, but I downloaded English from BoardGameGeek, and our ship printed it for
me (just one page).
