Many mornings, we woke up in a new place. This one was a bit different; we
woke up with the ship en route and spent the morning watching the views as the
ship navigated through the Bay of Kotor and the Gulf of Kotor to Kotor, while
listening to talks about the area by the trip experience leaders. Then we took a
tour of town and were at leisure to explore the town.
Unexpectedly, Kotor had an outlet for Hard Rock Podgorica, so I ran in and
got a shot glass while the tour was actually in progress.
The quality of English in Kotor, including our tour guide and several people in
shops, was excellent, giving me an impression they had gone to college in the
United States.
Kotor is a city of cats, who freely roam the old town and are fed by tourists
and locals. They are not all in good health, though, and the Kotor Kitties
charity struggle to care for them and limit their population.
After poking around a bit, I climbed the steps they have up a hill to a fortress
overlooking the city, 825 feet. Somebody was selling water ¾ of the way up for
€2.50 a bottle, and another person was selling at the top with no price shown.
After that, I came back down for lunch (poké) and a brief walk into modern
Kotor. It seemed typically European.
